IRTA is a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia adscribed to the Department of Agriculture. RTA’s purpose is to contribute to the modernization, competitiveness and sustainable development of agriculture, food and aquaculture sectors, the supply of healthy and quality foods for consumers and, generally, improving the welfare of the population.
It has had an important paper since the begining of the project, detecting the needs in the exploitations, but henceforth it will be AqüiCAT, the catalan cluster of aquaculture, who will represent the technical part in the platform.
The Aquaculture Cluster of Catalonia (AqüiCAT) was created with the aim of bringing together all companies and entities in a given region linked directly or indirectly to the same sector (aquaculture and fisheries), with the intention of forming a production center with certain competitive advantage and, at the same time, with a clear and defined will to open themselves up to the entire country.
The overall that form the entreprises and entities of the territory that support their innovative potential, will take part of the Aquaculture catalan Cluster. In the medium term or since the beginning, it is feasible that the cluster can be opened to other related sectors (ie: biotechnology, ICT, transformers, …) creating a cross-field structure that allows them to open to other companies and organizations throughout the catalan territory, national and even internationally.
It aims to encourage innovation to improve the competitiveness of its members and promote the cooperation, the complementarity and the communication between them and thus achieve a critical mass of companies and innovative agencies of the territory to facilitate innovative practices to improve competitiveness and international projection and visibility.
